For a family building a new home by Lake Sylvia, cabinets with a Nordic aesthetic were high on the wish list given their Finnish family ancestry. When they heard from a friend about Puustelli Kitchens being a Finnish kitchen cabinetry company, they immediately reached out. This active family of 13 wanted sustainably made, eco-friendly kitchen cabinetry that would stand the test of time, smart storage solutions, and kid-friendly durability that would still look elegant enough to match the modern transitional style of the home were priorities.
The kitchen demanded a layout and cabinetry choices that would allow all family members to cook and gather in the same space without running into open doors or each other. The final layout included a large island facing the cooktop cabinetry wall and accessible lower pullout cabinetry units that ensure enough storage for pots and pans, plates, and utensils.
After some deliberation, the homeowners opted for the 100-percent reusable and recyclable Puustelli FosbArt cabinetry doors with a lively wood pattern that works perfectly to hide small scuffs and scratches inadvertently caused by little helping hands. For the cabinetry pattern not to overwhelm the space, the darker kitchen island complements the white cabinetry color chosen to reflect the abundant natural light in the space.
Additional cabinetry details include easy-to-access pullout recycling bin drawers in the island and signature Puustelli hidden drawers-within-drawers perfect for utensils and cookware placed near the stove. An open shelf by the upper cabinetry unit was added by request of the clients for a place to display favorite decorative kitchen items.
The kitchen here functions as the heart of the home and is a true connecting point for all 13 family members. Creating a lovely bright and open space full of functional design choices where everyone can gather was the true highlight of this kitchen project.
