One challenge, when designing this 2016 award-winning kitchen, was creating a graceful transition from the home’s existing Arts and Crafts style interior to a brighter, slightly more modern space. Gigi Digiacomo set out to soften and balance the rich masculine overtones of the dining room and library by establishing a creamy monochromatic palette for the new kitchen, laundry, and mudroom. A hand-made ceramic from Walker Zanger now lines the east wall—counter to ceiling—perfectly complementing the cream cabinetry while providing a visual shift in texture. Open shelving, in birch, was incorporated to create display space for ceramics, oil canisters, and dishware. LED strip lighting was added along the tile wall and within the upper cabinets to provide a continuous soft glow. The kitchen features a dedicated baking center, improved pantry storage, and a built-in menu chalkboard (to announce the “cake of the week”).All main level spaces are on the tour.
