It’s not every day that you have the opportunity to collaborate with homeowners on a 200-year-old barn, one that was remodeled in the 90s (just not to code, not completely finished, and without a design plan or aesthetic). The family hired Catherine Harrington of Catherine Harrington Designs, in collaboration with Waldenwood LTD, to convert a 7,000-square-foot one-time livestock barn into a functional, warm, and charming home—complete with large open spaces, soaring ceilings, exposed posts and beams (some over 12-inches thick), and reclaimed timber. The end result is the perfect combination of warm rustic living and modern luxury. There’s even an antique airplane being rebuilt in the basement to eventually be flown out of the Lake Elmo Airport just a few blocks away.
