This Nordic-inspired structure celebrates the elegance of simple gable forms contrasted with clean, modern lines. While contemporary, this project provides modern urban living within a storied neighborhood. Each unit accommodates an aging-in-place lifestyle, with specialized features including zero-entry thresholds, wide hallways, and private elevators.
By integrating three single-family units into one city lot, Unfold Architecture, in collaboration with Sustainable 9 Design + Build, was one of the first teams to utilize the revised zoning ordinances allowed under the Minneapolis 2040 plan. This community-altering plan encourages densification throughout the neighborhoods of Minneapolis to increase the availability of housing for all income levels. The goal of this project was to show the community how the 2040 plan can be done in a tasteful, clean, and respectful manner.
With sustainability at the forefront, the residence is insulated with
2 inches of exterior mineral wool insulation. Likewise, interior products are carefully integrated to limit any off-gassing, resulting in a positive air quality rating from the Environmental Protection Agency. A first of its kind, this adaptable, environmental, and accessible project offers truly one-of-a-kind city living.
