The homeowners of this Mendota Heights abode were no strangers to the work of McDonald Remodeling. Having previously worked on projects with close relatives, the McDonald team was eager to work with the young family and turn their dreams into reality.
The clients’ biggest must-have was to open the space. Despite ample square footage on the main level, the enclosed layout left the spaces feeling cramped and isolated. Other key project objectives included eliminating dark oak accents, relocating the laundry to the upper level, elevating the sunken family room, and enhancing the flow of natural light through larger windows and patio doors.
The resulting layout is bright, airy, and open—with beautiful sightlines and seamless transitions between spaces on the main level. And while the main areas are surely favorites for the family, both the mudroom and removal of the sunken floor remain standout features for Greg Alsterlund, president. Providing the family with a space that was as beautiful as it was functional was an important part of the design, ensuring the home could be enjoyable and accessible for all family members. Now, they have plenty of floor space, ample storage, and an updated layout to enjoy for years to come.
