You’ll get to see each designer’s challenges and joys behind creating the perfect kitchen for their client.

Today, we’re featuring the work of Andrea Dixon of Fiddlehead Design Group.

About the kitchen:

With the kids grown and out of the house, these design-savvy empty nesters with modern sensibilities were finally ready to create the kitchen and open floor plan they’d always wanted. By removing the only support walls and an awkward pantry closet, we were able to create a cooks’ kitchen with large island, ample storage and plenty of prep/entertaining surfaces. We also included a comfortable corner with seating for two to enjoy morning coffee and the newspaper with a view to the beautiful backyard.

What was your design dilemma?

The homeowners were looking for an open concept main floor.  The current space was divided by walls that made individual rooms feel small and dark.

Tell us about your sources of inspiration for this project.

The homeowners wanted a clean and modern space so we started with a neutral palette of gray, black and white. The funky orange light fixture is the art in this space.

Tell us about the biggest challenge you encountered while executing the project and how did you overcome it?

The homeowners wanted to work with the existing flooring and trim in their home which had a gray-washed, pickled finish.  In the end, we replaced the flooring with a new, darker wood floor that grounded the space and pulled everything together.

What part of this project are you most proud of?

Like every project, our pride in a job well done comes from a happy client.  These clients love their new kitchen and main floor and are ready for their next project with us!
