Aülik Design Build loves preserving history as much as they love designing the future. From historic renovations to legacy new construction, their team’s close collaboration with clients ensures each project is functional, timeless, and enduring.
Built in 1862, this French Mansard-style home has endured a century and a half of questionable updates, additions, and the occasional fire. Built by a railroad bridge builder at the end of the Civil War, the bones of the structure were reasonably sound. The balance of the home, however, was badly deteriorated, energy deficient, and in need of a complete overhaul.
To begin the transformation, Aülik removed the generations of mismatched additions and then took the remaining structure down to its shell. To ensure the expanded footprint and new accessory buildings were scaled to allow the historic core to remain dominant, the team exercised extraordinary care while redesigning the “working” estate.
Meshing old with new, nearly 8,000 square feet were added to the property, with great attention given to selecting suitable materials and historically appropriate products. Aülik’s construction team worked closely with talented local craftsmen, guaranteeing a seamless and enduring restoration from start to finish.
