Orchid Sale & Educational Event

Did you know more than 25,000 varieties of orchids exist? We can’t promise Bachman’s will have each and every one for sale, but we’re confident they’ll have quite the selection. To top it off, Orchid Society of Minnesota will host a free, public, educational event to teach flower fanatics everything there is to know about this pretty plant. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. @ Bachman’s, 6010 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis, bachmans.com

Macrame Lab Workshop

In two separate workshops, Knot + Ivy (a business ran by two best friends that specializes in custom home décor) will instruct and inspire you to get behind the recent revival of macramé. Whether you’re being drawn toward a wall hanging or a plant hanger, LAB MPLS has you covered with beginner-level workshops. Wall Hanging on Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Plant Hanger on Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m, @ LAB MPLS, 1629 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, labmpls.com

Outdoor Kitchen Workshop

Building a backyard space to cook and entertain (and hopefully not burn) some of your fall kitchen faves isn’t as difficult as it seems—Gertens experts are here to show you. Saturday, 11 a.m. to noon @ Gertens Greenhouse, 5500 Blaine Ave., Inver Grove Heights, gertens.com

Sociable Summer: Market Fest III

Minneapolis’ mobile marketplace (hosted by Social Cider Werks and Minneapolis Craft Market) is bringing in more than 30 local makers to its end of season event. Cider-drinkers and local goods-lovers alike will come together one last time to watch their favorite family-friendly experience go out with a bang (until next summer, at least). Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. @ 1500 Fillmore St. NE, Minneapolis, facebook.com

Avant Garden

Participate in a silent auction (where guests can place a hefty bid on 35 pieces of art that retail up to $100,000), snack and sip on gourmet grub and cocktails, or dance the night away at this glamorous, one-of-a-kind, art-packed party. While you’re there, fall in love with Siah Armajani’s new exhibition Follow This Line. Saturday, 6 p.m. to midnight @ Walker Art Center, 725 Vineland Place, Minneapolis, walkerart.org
