2016 Tour: Orfield Design & Construction, Inc.
Age of the home: Built in 1967
Type of remodel: Main level (all rooms)
Remodeling timeline: 14 months
Remodeling budget: $200,000
Before: Spaces in this one-level rambler bottlenecked and prevented interaction. By opening the floor plan and repurposing the original function of hightraffic rooms, the space looks completely different (the kitchen became the mudroom, the dining room became the kitchen, the den became the formal dining room). A soaking tub was added to the remodeled bathroom, and in the master suite, a bow seat replaced two windows, making the room feel twice as big.
Unique elements: Matching brick on fireplace, wall, and backsplash, custom art glass front doors, and a structural steel post and beam that was originally added to hold up intersecting points was incorporated into the final design.
