Age of the home: Built in 1971
Type of remodel: Everything but the master suite and lower level
Remodeling timeline: Four months
Remodeling budget: $150,000
Before: Carpet everywhere (very 70s)
Challenges: Originally designed by renowned Minnesota architect James Stageberg, the challenge was keeping his vision while adapting the home to today’s active family—with more open space creating a flowing, cohesive layout. The original design afforded views of the forest from every corner of the house; also a major component of the new design.
Unique elements: A 16-foot entry wall is covered with three-dimensional plaster, a look that’s carried into both powder rooms and the kids’ bathroom. In the kitchen, highly reflective white cabinetry reflects the trees and pool outside.
