Just off of Lake Minnetonka, this home started as a remodel, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at it. Contemporary Homes, MN owners Scott and Ellen Krohn decided to move the driveway and garage to open up the entrance to the house and create more usable space in the front for landscaping. The exterior received a facelift, too, trading traditional wood siding and arched windows for a white and stone façade and large, modern windows.
The interior was also completely transformed. The Krohns were inspired by the design aesthetic in Dallas and partnered with Dallas native Amy Nolen of Nolen Homes and local builder Justin Horstman of Top-Notch Construction to bring some Texas flair into the home. The team incorporated light colors and clean lines and used materials like glass, metal, stone, marble, and engineered hardwood to reflect the urban Dallas style.
While the home started as a spec remodel, the couple decided to make it their personal residence after putting so much of their energy and style into the space. They then decided to add in more unique touches to suit their family.
Many of the striking features of the house are made to look like art, such as the massive iron staircase with a glass wine room underneath. Another memorable element is the sleek stone surround on the living room fireplace that stands out against a bamboo wall (which also conceals a hidden bar).
Other spaces were created with the couple’s four kids in mind, like the lower level that includes an open-concept theater room, a game area, and a high- tech hockey sport court. A four-season porch leads out to the backyard, where a pool and expansive outdoor seating area provide plenty of space to entertain.
