Before settling in Minnesota, this couple spent many happy years together in Boston, where they met. When they moved to Minnesota, one of the things they missed about living out East was the Cape Cod style of architecture. Their goal when hiring Nor-Son, Inc.—offering architectural talent, construction management, and precision craftsmanship under one roof—was to create an East Coast-influenced house infused with New England charm … in Edina.

Nor-Son Vice President of Design Peter Eskuche helped the couple accomplish this goal by designing an exterior with a gambrel roof (complete with a cupola), dormers, and turret, using silvery grey shingles—for an ocean-aged look—and keeping the ornamentation simple.

Inside, the home features boxed beam details, a nautical-themed railing, and dark wood flooring contrasting with crisp white trim. There are coastal elements in the large wrapped kitchen cabinetry, stained center island, and ample millwork and built-ins. The master suite features 9-foot ceilings, plenty of windows, his-and-hers vanities, and a master bath with a Victorian Albert freestanding tub, while the kids’ rooms have charming window seats and niches for bookshelves. The more casual lower level features a bar, fitness room, play room, and sport court with a drop-down theater-style screen.

The layout was carefully thought-out to ensure the space can serve multi-functional purposes: before, during, and after the family is complete. With a little nostalgia and a lot of good design, this growing family can now make Minnesota memories in true Cape Cod style.
