When the homeowners of this historic abode first met with the team at McDonald Remodeling, they had a clear vision: preserve the home’s classic style while updating it to function well for their young family. Considering the clients’ love of clean, modern lines, the challenge arose from striking a balance of both old and new elements in the design.
To do this, much of the existing millwork and architectural features were kept intact, while new finishes were selected to complement the century-old structure. The kitchen, specifically, is a prime example of the homeowners’ unique style, boasting open shelving and cubbies, glass cabinetry, and concealed storage for appliances. The breakfast nook is complete with original benches and a table but is refreshed with a modern light fixture and playful wall covering.
Adjacent to the kitchen, the back entry is lined with paneling and hooks—providing storage to slip off shoes and drop coats when coming in through the garage. With its practical appeal and timeless design, the home is now charming, modern, and inviting.
