MA PETERSON DESIGN BUILD
CITY: Edina
NUMBER OF BEDROOMS: 5
NUMBER OF BATHROOMS: 5
STYLE: Contemporary
Set on a beautiful, centrally located lot in Edina, this contemporary lakeside home brings the surrounding environment front and center and features a creative layout that was developed as a result of the unique environmental and setback restrictions on the property.
One aspect the homeowners wanted to capitalize on was the beautiful lake views. Floor-to-ceiling windows on the main and upper levels capture these views and create a stunning sensory experience in the space. The owners also wanted to make sure the layout was set up for one-level living. To meet this need, MA Peterson’s team designed one of the more unique features of the home—two main level owner’s suites.
A stunning front entry staircase creates a grand entrance to the home. It features a custom welded metal railing and stringer, an integrated bench seat and creative storage closet, hidden access to the basement crawl space, and subtle stair lighting. Another defining feature on the main level is the fireplace wall. With a stone waterfall hearth at the base, custom cabinetry with clean lines, floor-to-ceiling metal intersecting an exposed steel beam, and a linear fireplace set below a large stone slab, this beautiful wall puts the warm, modern finishes of the home on full display.
While environmental restrictions eliminated the possibility of adding a basement, MA Peterson’s team creatively incorporated basement elements, including an office, entertaining area, screen porch, and exercise room, into one spectacular upper-level space. A large, four-door pocket door unit, with drop down Phantom Screen, allows an abundance of natural light into the space and creates a beautiful screen porch feeling when fully opened.
A commitment to simple shapes, natural light, and rich materials creates a consistent contemporary style throughout the home. This style is represented on the exterior of the home with flat roofs that intersect and extend onto the main forms, linear siding materials, careful window placement, and stone materials that transition into the main level of the home. Warm finishes, light colored walls and ceilings, exposed structural elements, and a mix of textures allow the style of the home to be on display in every interior space.
