2020 Builder Preview: Stinson Builders Inc.

Stinson Builders Inc. has been a player in the building industry for 16 years, but for founder Jason Stinson, construction has been a part of his life for much longer. Stinson’s father is the owner and creative mind driving the eponymous Charles R. Stinson Architecture + Design firm, and starting in Stinson’s high school years, he would work as a carpenter on his father’s projects. He continued this work throughout college, and afterward, he joined production companies, engineering firms, and custom builders, eventually starting his own company. 

With each project, Stinson Builders imbue the company’s tenants of craftsmanship, transparency, and sustainability. While not a luxury home, their grain bin build for Bang Brewing won a Sustainable St. Paul Award in 2015, and the team pores over options such as geothermal heating and cooling, PV solar systems and stormwater management, and custom HVAC systems for each project. It’s about uniting function and form, though, and with each decision, the team makes sure that the design still reflects the vision the clients had for their home.

“Through weekly site meetings, biweekly budget meetings, and daily communication, we guide our clients through the rare process of building a dream home step by step,” Stinson says. “We listen to our clients, designers, subcontractors, and employees to make intelligent decisions that reflect the desires of our clients and pair design intent with sustainable detail.” 

Stinson Builders works on about two luxury homes per year, primarily in the western metro of the Twin Cities or Stillwater. No matter where the home is, the relationship with the clients doesn’t end when the home is finished. Outside of a complimentary one-year walkthrough and tuning, Stinson Builders also offers annual inspections and service. “We take great pride in our projects and our team,” Stinson says, and needless to say, the proof is in the construction.
