City Homes Combines Comfort With Community in Edina Condo

This upscale condo replicates the extravagant-yet-effortless feel of its surrounding community

Appealing to a specific demographic can be tricky, especially when the home is a boutique condo—but City Homes, LLC, an Edina design-build firm well-recognized for its luxury homes throughout south Minneapolis, Edina, and the western suburbs, managed it with aplomb. When the team, led by principal and general manager Rebecca Remick, decided to transfer its home expertise to the condo market with Edina Flats, located in the Pamela Park neighborhood, the result was spectacular.

The family room features white built-ins that double as storage and seating.

“The development, which includes 15 single-level units throughout four buildings, replicates the neighborhood feel of the surrounding community, while each condo has the customization of a single-family home,” Remick says. With a maximum of two units on each level, the buildings are free of long dark hallways, and instead, large windows on three sides of each condo bring plentiful natural light into the airy, modern interiors.

A wine fridge and custom cabinets define the nearby dining and bar area.

In the main living space, the open kitchen, dining, and living spaces are ideal for family gatherings or entertaining friends. Bi-fold Marvin doors open onto private balconies that overlook trees and gardens—perfect for morning coffee or evening al fresco cocktails—and a nearby fireplace has built-ins on either side that double as seating and storage. A dining and bar area (which features a wine fridge and custom cabinets) connects the living room and kitchen, where white oak floors gleam underfoot. Custom millwork and full-height cabinetry, quartzite countertops, Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, and Kohler fixtures define the area.

Dark navy cabinets ground the light, airy kitchen, which features custom millwork, full-height cabinetry, quartz countertops, and high-end appliances.

Down the hall and around the corner, double French doors open to an extra bedroom or office. Motorized shades ensure privacy, as windows surround the tub and shower in the spa-like master bath. The laundry area connects to the back entry, while additional bedrooms, baths, and closets ensure the condo lives like a much larger home.

In the master bathroom, natural light pours through the home’s large windows.

Moreover, City Homes thoughtfully and strategically designed the condos to minimize the way in which they “touch” each other. Any shared walls between units are located in closets or pantry areas, rather than in living areas. “During the framing stage, you couldn’t hear a thing outside,” says Katie Stenger, the project director of City Homes. “The walls are also super-insulated. It’s so peaceful and quiet that you feel like you’re inside a stand-alone house.”

Whether empty nesters done with maintaining a large home and yard, a single professional who values quiet and privacy, or an on-the-go couple seeking a home base, Edina Flats provides an upscale living option. “We took the same qualities and concepts in our custom homes and transferred it to the Edina Flats condos,” Stenger says.

Bi-fold Marvin doors open to a ground-level private balcony perfect for morning coffee and conversation.

“We put a lot of thought into making sure Edina Flats stands out in the market,” she adds. “Each finish selection and floor plan is conducive to a luxury lifestyle, so that someone interested in a home but wanting a condo life can have a City Homes product in a condo.” In other words, Remick says, “We’re showing what can be done.”
