Divine Custom Homes Fulfills Every Wish on a Family’s List

This Stillwater home sits tall amid the grandeur of the red pines that surround it. That’s by design, says builder Jeff Warren of Divine Custom Homes. The transom-flanked front door opens to an airy great room, where one whole wall disappears—thanks to a 15-foot folding glass door—to let in the great outdoors. Which is just what the family wanted.

The homeowners had searched in vain for a home that would meet their needs and bring them closer to family in Hudson, Wisconsin. The couple, Chris and Michele, decided that building was the only option. They found that the existing houses in their price range were built for people in a different stage of life, with many spaces they simply would not use. While their new home measures 8,000-square feet, each space fits the way the family lives, says Chris.

When Chris and Michele began working with Divine, they drew up a wish list for their custom design. He wanted a well-appointed garage where he could store his Porsche collection and share his passion with son Jack. With space for 10 cars, parked tandem, Chris also has capacity to expand his collection. By ingeniously tucking the larger garage behind the standard family garage, Warren hid it from the street, the better to maintain the home’s curb appeal.

Chris’s second wish was for a state-of-the art theater. A self-described gadget guy, he worked directly with Harman-Kardon to tune the system to high-fidelity sound that meets or exceeds a theater experience.  And the sunken room with two rows of curved seating and acoustic-paneled walls is lovely to boot.

The in-ground pool and well-appointed outdoor entertaining spaces topped Michele’s wish list. The backyard’s tiered patios and a gas fire pit provide ample conversation areas, and the soon-to-be-completed outdoor kitchen will make summer parties even easier. The lower level walkout also features a kitchenette, finished in stunning marble, for his parents to use when they visit from Florida and stay in the private guest suite.

The open kitchen features an enormous working island, topped by quartzite, with an integrated walnut table. White enameled custom cabinetry and millwork throughout offers a refined contrast with the polished walnut floors. Lovely and carefully designed, this custom home truly meets both the needs and wants of these homeowners.
