Looking to revamp your living room, find fun accent pieces for your kitchen, or add some flair to your home office? You might want to try your luck at the American Society of Interior Designers’ (ASID) Sample Sale on Friday, June 25, and Saturday, June 26, at International Market Square in Minneapolis.
ASID, the organizer of the sale, is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing the local interior design community and profession. It has 47 professional chapters and 280 student chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada, including its Minnesota chapter. ASID hosts the sale every year, and it has proven to be one of the organization’s biggest money-makers.
“It’s a way for us to try and help other designers and showrooms liquidate product, and it’s a way for us to raise money for our organization,” says Jennifer Ball, an Allied ASID member and Minnesota-based interior designer.
While the event has been held for over 20 years, the 2021 sale will experience a change of season for the first time—now being held in the summer instead of fall. According to Ball, the sale usually takes place in late September to early October but was pushed back due to COVID-19.
“Because of COVID, our world has been turned upside down a little bit,” Ball says. “We wanted to host it in the springtime, but the numbers were still high, and we weren’t quite ready. So, we had an opportunity. We thought we’d try a summer sale and see how it went.”
Despite the change in season, ASID isn’t expecting too much of an impact on vendors or merchandise available for the sale. Customers can still expect a wide variety of home goods to peruse, from designers such as Bernhardt Furniture, Hickory Chair, RLH Studio, and HI Gallery. Available merchandise ranges from small home accessories to large furniture, with discounts of up to 80 percent off. The merchandise available at the sale varies from year to year, however, so the best way to see what International Market Square has to offer this year is to show up and see for yourself!
“We’re always excited because we never quite know what we’re going to get,” Ball says. “There’s always new things, and we are always looking forward to seeing what’s out there every year.”
With showrooms featuring designer merchandise typically only available for purchase by trade designers, ASID MN’s Sample Sale offers the perfect opportunity to snag some beautiful home items at seriously discounted prices. There will be free admission and parking, and COVID-19 safety protocols will be administered—so be sure to bring your mask if you’re not fully vaccinated, plus a credit card for cashless payment.
“We’re hoping to have a good turnout, and we’re hoping to have a good amount of merchandise,” Ball says. “We’re excited to see people again.”
