When Ferrin’s Furniture in Red Wing permanently closed after a devastating fire in 2019, resident interior designer Jodi Caverly sat back and soul-searched. “It was basically where my whole career was established, and I loved what I did,” says Caverly, an employee of nearly 15 years. “I asked myself, ‘What do I want to do for the rest of my life?’” In a unique position to replot her career’s trajectory, it only made sense for her—with the help of her husband, a contractor, and their two young children, of course—to leave a mark of her own. Caverly launched a custom furniture and home décor shop: The Market Home + Design.

Within the 5,000-square-foot space off Red Wing’s Main Street, curated selections of furnishings and home accessories abound—from plants, finishes, and furniture to artwork, textiles, and lamps. Thousands of fabrics sit on display ready for complete customization, and full-fledged interior design services are only an ask away. Products from local makers, though? Not here, she says, as the southeast Minnesota river town already has a few shops dedicated to artisans. “I want to let that be their niche,” explains Caverly. “The custom furniture and the unique home décor? That’s mine. You can expect to find everything you’ll never see inside a big-box store.”
