Now Open: Anthropologie Home Design Center + Z Gallerie in Edina

Edina is known as the Twin Cities’ leading destination for home furnishings. Recently, it’s expanded its offerings with the new Anthropologie home design center at 50th and France and Z Gallerie at Galleria.

After a few years of expanding its home interiors offerings, Anthropologie has opened a home design center within its longstanding 50th and France store storefront. The design center offers the same customization options it offers on its website, including upholstery swatches, a selection of its most popular furniture silhouettes on display, wallpaper samples, area rugs selections, and furniture finish touches. You can also shop the retailer’s eclectic selection of bohemian-inspired furnishings, including macramé plant holders, dinnerware, and throw pillows.

It’s the 10th Anthropologie home design center to open in the U.S. over the past few years. Anthropologie home stylist, Jessica Cahoon, says that the center will refresh every six months or so with new furniture pieces and home décor items. Since the design center was built within an existing store and didn’t want to take away floor space from the women’s clothing and accessories collections, the design center is working with a smaller footprint than some of Anthropologie’s larger stores in other markets.

Shoppers can make an appointment to meet with a stylist or arrange for an in-home visit to style their space. Custom furniture choices currently include 126 shapes, 11 fabrics, and 152 colors. The in-house design center features a home stylist and a trio of room vignettes, including bedroom, living room, and dining room options.

Meanwhile down France Avenue, Z Gallerie has opened at Galleria. The Los Angeles–based retailer, which is known for its fashion-forward home furnishings and accessories, is part of the upscale shopping center’s recent expansion.

If the name Z Gallerie sounds familiar, it’s probably because it previously operated a local store at Woodbury Lakes, which closed in 2009. The brand’s aesthetic is a luxe mix of modern and glam, with an emphasis on comfort, functionality, and accessibility. Z Gallerie’s fashion bona fides led to a recent partnership with New York–based fashion website Coveteur to restyle its SoHo loft.

Z Gallerie was originally founded by three siblings from the Zeiden family in 1979 as an L.A. poster shop—and it stays true to its roots with its art collection, which it calls “the gallerie.” The store’s selection of framed art ranges from $50 to $900 (select pieces of original art are sold on Despite their luxe look, Z Gallerie’s sofas, chairs, bedroom sets, and occasional tables are moderately priced, with most occasional chairs starting at $700 and sectionals at $1,700.

With the addition of the glitzy new 7,000-square-foot store, more than half of Galleria are now devoted to furnishings and furniture, including Gabberts, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Arhaus, and Restoration Hardware, as well as Design Within Reach and Soft Surroundings, both of which opened last fall.
