Interior designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent are breaking the mold for pet products. For so long, pet furniture and accessories have been eyesores in peoples’ homes, with pet owners adhering to the assumption that style must be sacrificed to achieve function. Bur recently, Berkus and Brent recognized the lack of design-friendly pet accessories in the furniture and decor space, which presented them with an idea: They developed a fully functional and stylish collection of pet products that would no longer disrupt otherwise cohesive home designs.

Comprised of habitats that pet owners can be proud to display, the collection helps to develop more coexistent relationships between pet owners and their animals. Stacia Andersen, executive vice president and chief customer officer at PetSmart, says, “We see pet parents taking greater interest in integrating their pets into their homes, and by bringing together Nate and Jeremiah and our unmatched expertise in pet care, we’ve created a line that is every bit as beautiful as it is functional.”

A big part of the couple’s job when designing homes is to create spaces that people will not only use but also love. Throughout this project, they applied the same principles to pets, creating environments where animals can eat, drink, sleep, and hang out. Each design provides pets with a stimulating environment that provides them with everything they need for a home. “[Pets are] part of the family,” Berkus says.

Included in the collection are thoughtfully designed environments for fish, reptiles, and other small pets, with products such as stands, artificial plants, and decor. The two drew inspiration from midcentury-modern design styles and created an organic and natural feel by using specific colors, materials, and textures. “The idea was to create furniture and decorations that are contemporary, but also timeless—products that would fit into a wide range of homes and decorating styles,” Brent says.

The collection is available to shop now in stores and online.
