How Green Should You Go? Energy Efficient Homes on the Homes by Architects Tour

Home 6 on AIA Home Tour

Presented by  AIA-Minnesota-Logo

This year’s tour features more energy efficient home designs than any other in its nine-year history. If green design is on your list of interests, or even if you’ve never seriously considered energy efficiency a high priority and want to know what all the hype is about, you won’t want to miss seeing these projects. What’s great about many of the projects on this year’s tour is that nearly every one incorporates some element of energy efficiency into its design, from the use of recycled building materials and efficient HVAC components to electric car charging stations in the garage, you’ll see the entire spectrum of green building here.

Home #13 in Roseville, a new construction project designed by SALA Architects’ Marc Sloot, AIA, is ground zero for energy efficient design. For the homeowners it’s a top priorty; they’re so committed to sharing their experiences in creating a Net Zero home they blog about it. You’ll also find many project partners at this home who can share information about some of the energy efficient components within the home.

Christian Dean, AIA, of Christian Dean Architecture, worked with his client at Home #6 to design an urban residence with a modern flair but that also serves as a model for modern sustainable home design and building practices. GreenStar certified, it features a rooftop solar array, electrical charging station for a car, and sustainable landscaping.

Not far away in Golden Valley, Tan Nguyen, AIA, of Nguyen Architects, designed Home #4 as a ‘High Performance’ home, including a rooftop solar array and an electric elevator. The architect and homeowner worked together to balance both energy efficiency and cost in the final design.

These homes and the other 14 residential projects are open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm on September 17 and 18, 2016. Tickets are now on sale at homesbyarchitects.org.
