What’s So Special About the Homes by Architects Tour?

Presented bylogo_aia-minnesota-mn

The volunteers that greet you at each home on the Homes by Architects Tour are often asked what makes this tour different from the many other home tours presented to the public throughout the year in the Twin Cities. There are a number of good responses to the question, but a large distinguishing factor is variety: variety of architectural styles showcased, variety in scope of projects, and most importantly, variety of project budgets.

The mission of this tour is to demonstrate to homeowners how dexterous an architect is: their training prepares them to design small, large, and everything in between. This year’s projects fall across the spectrum when it comes to budget and project size, and on the luxury side of the spectrum there are three homes you won’t want to miss.

Home #6, in a historic Edina neighborhood, was designed by Charles Cudd De Novo Architectural Design-Build and embodies stately elegance. The home features beamed ceilings and windows that make the living spaces fairly glow with natural light. The lower level bar is a sight to behold.

Nearby, Home #7, designed by RT Design, includes three entertainment rooms, an owner’s retreat, refined indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces, and a silent music room. What is a silent music room, you ask? Tour the home to find out.

Home #20 demonstrates how sophisticated finishes can add to a feeling of luxury in a home. Designed by PURE Design Environments, the home features a serene master suite retreat and entertaining spaces where unique lighting fixtures and glossy finishes lend an air of extravagance.

Check out these three luxurious projects along with the rest of the homes on this year’s tour to experience the range and versatility of design solutions that an architect can create.

Advance tickets are available online or at AIA Minnesota for $15 (until 2 pm on September 18). They will also be available at each home during tour weekend for $20 for a full ticket or $10 for an individual home.
