A Superior Cottage

This Airbnb is a little slice of heaven on the big lake

On the shore of Lake Superior lies Burlwood Cottage, a decidedly quiet respite far from daily life. Owned by hosts Tony and Jeni Robb, this rustic-meets-chic and dog-friendly Airbnb lived a previous life as an 800 square-foot cottage built in 1955. Today, it stands at 1,300 square feet, perfect for vacationing families who want some room but not too much, to keep the coziness. Surrounded by hundred-foot-tall spruces and pines (festooned with burls—hence the name), this tranquil abode sits 15 miles north of Duluth on more than 7 acres. While the land is certainly stunning, the inside continues to awe, with warm and welcoming aesthetics that Jeni says is a mix of “Martha Stewart, British flair, and Nancy Meyers,” a reference to the filmmaker who always showcases impeccable, cottage interiors. Features like a marble fireplace, a sink-down-in leather club chair, and a wood-paneled kitchen make it an ideal winter getaway, complete with snowshoeing right out the front door.
