It’s always a pleasure when a custom home builder and client come to a meeting of the minds and work together seamlessly. It’s even easier when there’s a family connection. This modern, yet organic home built for a family of four is a perfect example, being that homeowner Todd Sherman is brother to Tami Sherman, owner and architectural designer at Divine Custom Homes.
Working alongside her longtime partner, Jeff Warren, president of Divine Custom Homes, Tami and the team wanted to create a residence that was equal parts timeless and soft contemporary while remaining family-friendly, too. Since this project was all in the family, brainstorms over dinner and trips to the site together were regular occurrences, Warren says.
With a goal of building their forever home, the homeowners wanted a space that would age graciously over the years, so the team placed a specific focus on organic materials in the design. To accentuate its more natural vibe, the home features white oak cabinetry, raw white oak beams, natural stone fireplaces, and quartzite countertops. Brass and bronze finishes on the hardware and light fixtures add a bit of sheen throughout.
There is certainly room for a bustling family in this beautiful home. For instance, the generous three-season screen porch, showcasing cedar finishes and a wood-burning fireplace, is the perfect spot to watch the “endless types of wildlife” that saunter through the lot, Warren says, adding that a family of bears frequents the spring-fed pond on the property.
Additionally, the kitchen, which is specifically “designed for entertaining,” as Warren says, is marked by its custom cabinets and beverage center, while “his and hers” offices, each with its own unique color and material palette, make for an idyllic work-from-home environment.
Other perks of the home include the Jack and Jill-style bathrooms, laundry provided on both levels, and an upper bonus room to act as “the kiddo hangout,” as Warren describes.
On the lower level, you’ll find a rarely seen bourbon room, which acts as an oasis that’s also geared toward cocktail hour. In this space, there’s a Roman-clay ceiling, white oak cabinets detailed with brass mesh, and a glass wall that gazes into the wine cellar, which can house up to 1,500 bottles of wine. Warren calls it a “monster wine room,” ideal for celebrating good times. It doesn’t get much more luxe, plush, or cozy than a space like this.
