Allora & Calzadilla: Chalk

With Chalk, Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla have made their mark (literally) in Lima, Paris, Boston, New York City, and now, Minneapolis. You can make your own as well inside this interactive art installation at Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.

Maybe not in the way you’d expect, though. With 64-inch, 120-pound sticks of chalk, visitors can scribble on the walls, doodle on the floors, and write messages throughout Gallery 7—resulting in a larger-than-life chalkboard for self-expression. (In a nutshell, it’s basically everything you always wanted to do as a child.)

After you’ve had enough, bear the cold and venture through the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden or stay awhile, keep warm, and get inspired by other Walker exhibits, including Five Ways In: Themes from the Collection, Elizabeth Price, Platforms: Collection and Commissions, and I am you, you are too.

Tuesday-Wednesday, Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. @ Walker Art Center, 725 Vineland Place, Minneapolis, walkerart.org
