Ready, Set, Go! Design in 7 Reveals Secrets from the Design Trenches

What a lineup! For the 2019 version of Design in 7: 7 Stories, 7 Minutes, a program of the University of Minnesota’s Design Student and Alumni Board, the selection team has pulled out all the stops. Four women on the panel bring the best of entrepreneurship in design and the corporate perspective to the table, while the three men add the civic and political perspectives to this exciting event. This year’s event takes place on Tuesday, April 16, at Coffman Memorial Union Theater. Tickets are $5 to $15.

Michele Espeland, an interior designer and principal at Cuningham Group works not only in housing, but also in hospitality and retail. Andrea Hyde is a creative director with Target’s Brand Design Lab. Joy McBrien is the founder and CEO of Fair Anita, a social enterprise that empowers women around the world through dignified jobs and fair trade relationships. Marion Parke is not only a podiatric surgeon, she’s also a luxury footwear designer: a perfect pairing. Through her company, Marion Parke, she creates footwear with intelligent design that seamlessly blends thoughtful structure with an elegant yet edgy style.

Former architect Raymond Dehn is now politician and community organizer, and a member of the MN House of RepresentativesAdam Arvidson is a much-published writer and landscape architect, who also works with the Minneapolis Park & Rec Board. Luis Soto is also with Target, working as an industrial and UX designer, and as a designer with the corporation’s Home Product Design.

Not only will guests enjoy a lively, prismatic conversation about design, attendees can also enjoy complimentary appetizers during the reception. Among the many takeaways is also a deck of Design in 7 Trading Cards, featuring speaker bios and illustrations by graphic design student, John Barlow.
