A celebrated name in Minnesota’s architectural landscape, Rehkamp Larson Architects has reached a new milestone: a spot on Forbes’ exclusive list of America’s Top 200 Residential Architects for 2025. As the only Minnesota-based firm to receive the honor, the company’s inclusion not only highlights its remarkable portfolio but also underscores the vitality of the design community in the North Star State.
The Forbes list, curated with an emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and client satisfaction, shines a spotlight on firms that have made a profound impact on the residential architecture scene. According to the methodology outlined by Forbes, the selection process delves into firms’ ability to craft homes that are “authentic reflections of the people who live in them.” (Find the full methodology here!) It’s no wonder Rehkamp Larson earned a place among these elite names—its philosophy revolves around creating spaces with soul that resonate deeply with clients.
For Mark Larson and Jean Rehkamp Larson, this recognition comes full circle. “We started our business in the garden level of a building in Linden Hills,” they reflect. “We had a 6-month-old and a 3-year-old; we mortgaged our house to fund the launch, gave our rented space a fresh coat of paint, and strung twinkly lights on all the pipes above our heads.”
Those humble beginnings laid the foundation for a firm that would eventually redefine residential design in Minnesota and beyond. From the duo’s first project to their most celebrated works today, Rehkamp Larson Architects has always been about more than just architecture—it’s about building relationships.
In fact, Mark and Jean’s ethos is rooted in collaboration, a value reflected in their appreciation for the community that surrounds them. “Twenty-four years later, we are honored to be recognized on Forbes Top 200 list and, more importantly, thrilled to continue our collaboration with so many clients, builders, fabricators, interior, and landscape designers who we now call friends.”
