Maple Grove Cape Cod by Swanson Homes

When builder Curt Swanson designed this Cape Cod-influenced house, he aimed to integrate many of his customers’ most-requested features: open spaces, a large screened porch and deck, and unique elements that lend distinction to the rooms. Mission accomplished. This home offers a floor plan and the amenities to accommodate any type of family.

“It has all the components that my customers are looking for,” says Swanson, president of Swanson Homes in Medina. “It has a lot of customization that you don’t see until the $2-million range.”

It’s all about singular details for Swanson, from the octagon-shaped dining room with a built-in buffet and crown molding around the ceilings to the five-sided office tucked behind the great room. Abundant natural light floods the office from three walls of windows, while the natural-stone fireplace, wood paneling, and dark box-beamed ceiling give it a clubby sensibility.

Directly above the office, a junior suite mirrors the office’s pentagon shape. It’s the perfect space for a teenager, complete with a bathroom en suite and built-in desk with chalkboard and corkboard panels. For lounging upstairs, step down into a spacious bonus room that’s large enough for a foosball table but still cozy with its dormered ceiling.

Another carefully thought-out detail comes in the second-floor laundry room. It offers access to the upstairs hall and a door to the owners’ suite walk-in closet, just off the gray spa-like marble bathroom.

For the family that likes to entertain, the five-bedroom, six-bath, 6,200-square-foot home offers numerous options. On the main floor, the sleek and spacious kitchen—in whites and grays, with dark, quarter-sawn oak flooring—serves as the hub between an informal dining space and the great room. Custom details abound here, including the built-in bench in the dining area and the mini office off the kitchen featuring windows overlooking the sport court below.

In the basement, the exercise room and two-story sport court help kids—or anyone—burn off steam during long Minnesota winters. An open gathering space flows nicely between a media area, a pool table, and bar area, and offers access to the patio and lawn. A guest bedroom and bath suite also features a privacy-enhancing vestibule.

It’s just another in the long list of details that make this Maple Grove home truly special.
