Creating Space for Creative Spaces

For many homeowners, the line between work-life and home-life is blurring. For some homeowners, their creative work doesn’t revolve around a 9-to-5 schedule at an office. Two homes on the 2018 Homes by Architects Tour demonstrate how creative workspaces enhance the family lifestyle.

Sewing and art rooms are an essential part of design for a full lifestyle that’s on display in Home 1 on the 2018 tour. Nestled along Lake Waconia, the house is designed to bring resort living home, whether the family wants to use pool and sports facilities or work in the “adventure garage” that allows the RV to be packed and unpacked indoors. Low-maintenance finishes and plenty of indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces make it feel warm and inviting, and like an everyday getaway.

The two artists who own Home 16 on the tour wanted a space for living and for their work, all inside the same home. The Northeast Minneapolis home is separated into art studio spaces and living spaces; and its location allows easy access for business meetings. The home’s design allows for easy movement of large art pieces, and living spaces include a children’s wing that can be closed off from the rest of the open floor plan when needed.
