In gearing up for the 2015 Midwest Home Luxury Home Tour—going on during the first three weekends in June—we’ll be talking to some of the builders on this year’s tour. This week, we’re featuring Nor-Son, Inc., home #2 on the tour.
In part one of our two-part series, Nor-Son, Inc. describes how they were inspired by the history behind this property (the mansion was originally built 110 years ago by local entrepreneur George Van Dusen as his summer cottage, and was one of the oldest properties on Lake Minnetonka), and how the home was later designed for making a lifetime of family memories.
In 2010, a fire damaged the estate (there were no fire hydrants in the gated community at the time) and it was nearly a complete loss. One couple saw the potential of salvaging bits of history to capture the essence of tradition, family, and a touch of luxury in creating their forever home. Nicknamed the “Forever Estate” by the homeowners, the home unites individual tastes, life experiences, and design aspirations, and adopts a combination of French provincial and countryside cottage to create a truly distinctive home that will forever stand the test of time.
