When a family of six found the perfect lakeside lot for their new home in Excelsior, they asked Boyer Building Corporation for a warm and welcoming open plan that included a beautiful, functional kitchen, abundant gathering spaces, and proper accommodations for overnight guests. Their new 5,000-square-foot home, designed by Jim McNeal of James McNeal Architecture & Design, exudes charm—from its well-spaced beams scaled to adjust the ceiling height to expansive lake views from the open and airy first level. Plus, the home boasts a spacious patio just outside the great room.
“Challenges centered on designing for the client’s wish list while working within the constraints of the site, which were brought on by the proximity to the lakes and wetlands,” explains John Boyer, co-owner and manager of new home sales at Boyer Building Corporation. “We also prepared preliminary cost estimates during the design process to keep the design focused on affordability.”
The family “searched their souls for what they really liked and wanted,” Boyer adds. “Although it might have felt overwhelming at times, the design team at Boyer was there to help them through the process. The effort was well worth it.”
