In 1977, Italian designer Mario Bellini designed a dining room chair that’s now a popular knock-off around the world. He called it the Cab chair. Constructed with an enameled steel frame, over which he zippered pigmented saddle leather, the creamy-soft padded chair is available in the Twin Cities at ROAM Interiors in Uptown Minneapolis. Through March 17, the chair is also 20 percent off, as are all of the furnishings ROAM carries from the Italian manufacturer, Cassina. That also includes Bellini’s Cab lounge chair, which he released in 2015.
“The brands we carry rarely go on sale,” says Jenna Cesolini-Bahrke of ROAM. In addition to Cassina, the FLOS collection, Poltrona Frau’s leather furniture, Cappellini’s strict modern pieces, Pablo lighting and Tom Dixon lighting are also on sale. “Our brands are exclusive and modern—you’ll often seen them in Dwell—but they’re also transitional and fit into almost any home décor.”
Bellini’s Cab chair is also constructed of exquisitely stitched saddle leather, with a headrest and seat of foam and down feathers. The FLOS Arco light, originally designed in 1962, is another iconic piece now on sale. Its heavy marble base anchors a curving stainless-steel arm terminating in a demure steel sphere. “Achille Castiglioni designed the Arco light to go anywhere, so you don’t need to hard-wire lighting over a dining table, for instance,” says Cesolini-Bahrke. “It was supposedly inspired by a street lamp, and epitomizes where beauty meets functionality.”
During the sale, shoppers would be remiss for not at least peeking into the new Gus* Modern Studio on ROAM’s lower level. Half of the showroom is now dedicated to the Toronto-based Gus* Modern, contemporary furniture, accent pieces, and accessories at once elegant and industrial.
