Design is a journey,” says Sandy LaMendola, ASID, design principal and owner of Twist Interior Design in Minneapolis. “I want my clients to be delighted by the destination. But I derive equal satisfaction from their telling me how much they enjoyed getting there.”
Sandy has built her practice to ensure success on both counts. “Quality of design and strength of process go hand-in-hand,” she explains.
“Clients engage Twist for our eye, but they also depend on us for leadership and an established systematic approach across the project spectrum,” she says. “They count on us, too, for capacity, organization and accuracy; timely communication and follow-through; ethical business practices; and a policy of treating team members with respect and professional courtesy.”
While Sandy is clear about what clients should expect from her, one might wonder: What does she look for in clients and projects?
“Our work extends across styles from traditional to contemporary,” she explains. “We’ve worked on historic residences and period homes, as well as cutting-edge new construction. For me, people are the determining factor. Strong design and construction teams, enthusiastic collaborators and clients who are looking to change their aesthetic pace give each project its soul—and soul is everything.”
