Fun Calendars Make Perfect Stocking Stuffers

Calendars

Even though we run our lives according to the digital dates and alarms emanating from our phones, some of us still like to see the whole month spread out in a printed, paper version that hangs on the wall. If you’re one of us—or need a gift for someone who is—here are a few of our 2017 faves by local artists.

Minneapolis photographer Karen Melvin, who has published several book collections of iconic Minneapolis and St. Paul homes, has another due out this spring: Boathouses of Lake Minnetonka. A calendar featuring photos of those vintage boathouses is available now from independent bookstores, gift stores, and at shop.karenmelvin.com. Amy Rice, a local artist whose work is both nostalgic and whimsical, has come up with a fun idea for 2017: a coloring calendar, filled with 12 months of her art works turned into coloring pages. She is serious about audience participation: The calendar is spiral bound, and printed on heavy, 11-by-17-inch, recycled paper. Perfect for coloring-book fans of any age. Available on Etsy at a nice nest press, Rice’s shop.

Amy Rice Art Coloring Calendar, $30. Boathouse calendar, $20.
