The Stranger & Co. ethos is one of inclusion, accessibility, and visibility—but the philosophy doesn’t just exist on the internet anymore. After being an online-only shop for merely a year, the small, woman-owned home goods and lifestyle boutique now has its first brick-and-mortar location in Edina, just one block from elite shopping destination 50th & France.
The shop, where its mission is reflected in both the makers and goods in its product collections, represents primarily women, people of color, LGBTQ+, and immigrant artists. When it comes to the actual pieces inside, though, expect a touch of everything—from books to baskets and beyond—thanks to owner Maura Kelly Doyle’s love for both design and our community.
The Stranger & Co. maker community itself consists of more than 40 local and national small businesses, with many goods giving off bohemian and midcentury-chic vibes in geometric patterns and on-trend color palettes that emit burnt orange, brown, tan, and cream shades. Home goods (think ceramics, textiles, kitchenware), accessories (bags, hats, scarves, socks), and apothecary (skincare, bath, and makeup) only scratch the surface of all the beauty one can buy.
A purchase does more than just look beautiful in your home, though. It does work across the Twin Cities and beyond, too, with partial proceeds donated on a monthly basis to Minneapolis’ Northside Funders Group, St. Paul’s Neighbors United Funding Collaborative, Orenda Tribe‘s COVID Response Fund in partnership with NDN Collective, and more.
