  • Minneapolis Home + Remodeling Show: A spinoff of the long-running Minneapolis Home + Gardening Show, this new show offers budget-saving tips and more than 100 vendors for DIY remodeling, interior design, and home improvement. A highlight includes the Cargotecture exhibition, which showcases container homes (living spaces made from corten steel shipping containers), an offshoot of the tiny homes movement.   • Global Technique, Local Pattern: Ikat Textiles Opening Party: Explore the history and process behind ikat in this comprehensive exhibition produced by the Goldstein Museum of Design. The bold, intricate pattern—traditional to Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Uzbekistan, Japan, and the South American Andes—has been used in everything from basic cotton garments to luxurious silk saris. The opening party includes spinning demonstrations by members of the Weavers Guild of Minnesota, live Andean music by Enrique Burga of Ecuador Manta, and light refreshments.   • Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity ReStore Annual 50% Off Sale: The home improvement outlet, which features quality, donated home furnishings, furniture, and building supplies, hosts its annual half-off sale, with all revenue supporting Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s work buildings, rehabbing, and repairing homes for low-income families.   • Natural Built Home Retail Closing Sale: Natural Built Home, known as one of the few places in the Twin Cities to find home products for chemically sensitive people, is changing its focus from retail to remodeling. While the company is not closing, it’s downsizing and refocusing on eco-friendly, design-build-remodel services and products such as cabinets, countertops, flooring, tile, and more.   • Winter Carnival Orchid Show: The Como Park Conservatory hosts the 43rd annual Winter Carnival Orchid Show, the largest display of privately owned orchids in the region. Organized by the Orchid Society of Minnesota and the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, the show features orchids on display in a tropical setting as well as orchids for sale by vendors.
