Oiva Toikka, the Finnish glass artist, has been making his charming glass birds for iittala since the first small Flycatchers took flight in 1972. This year, as part of his “Bird and the City” collection, he created the Minneapolis Bird to honor our fair city (sorry, St. Paul). It’s designed to embody our Nordic winters, with windswept lines following the clear body and a band of green on the back meant to symbolize the Mississippi River that cuts through the city. Each bird in the numbered collection of 200 differs slightly, since every one is mouth-blown and handcrafted.
A perfect gift for Toikka collectors or Minneapolitans (current or former), the iittala Toikka Minneapolis Bird is exclusive to AlwaysMod.
Visit alwaysmod.com or the Golden Valley store to see the collection and a display that shows each step in the making of these mouth-blown birds.
