Collaborating with an Architect on Your Home Design: Does it Really Work?

Peterssen/Keller Architecture, home 4 on the AIA Homes by Architects Tour

A hundred years ago it was not unheard of for an architect to move in with a family for a period of time and silently observe their daily habits before designing a new home for them. Thankfully that practice is no longer followed, and today’s more collaborative (less creepy) relationship between architect and client serves to enhance creativity and often results in innovative and beautiful spaces. Don’t miss seeing two homes on the 2017 Homes by Architects tour that bring the power of this partnership to life in unique ways.

Peterssen/Keller Architecture collaborated closely with the interior designer owners of House #4 to turn their outdated 1970s house into a beautiful lake home in Wayzata. The innovative design takes full advantage of the lake and area, and brings the best design elements of both the architecture and the interior design harmoniously to life.

The owners of House #13 hadn’t planned on a redesign project; the fire that severely damaged their 1928 Mediterranean villa gave them an opportunity to incorporate today’s efficiency technologies without sacrificing the historic sensibilities of the home. David Heide Design Studio helped the owners properly value the property for insurers who weren’t aware of architectural details, reimagine some of the less functional aspects of the house and maintain the original aesthetic.

Don’t miss these and the other 15 unique projects on the 2017 tour. Homes are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17, 2017. Tickets are available for purchase here.
