Alexis Thompson of myTalk 107.1’s Take on this Year’s Midwest Home Show

Hey Friends Hey!

I am so excited for this year’s Midwest Home Show! Close to 100 vendors specializing in remodeling, home services, design, landscaping, and more will be there.

My husband and I bought our first home a little more than 6 years ago and we are FINALLY ready to make some changes to make the house our home.

It’s a big year for us and a big year for the Midwest Home Show—they’re celebrating 25 years!

And they are doing it on-a-stick…well, sort of (not really). They will be at the site known for things on sticks: the Grandstand at the MN State Fairgrounds (centrally-located and parking’s FREE!).

With that concept in mind, I had a blast making these videos (and got a little DIY crafty) with help from my friends at Midwest Home Magazine!

I have two favorite new features at this year’s Midwest Home Show; the first one is Furniture Refresh: DIY Mini-Makeover Workshops brought to you by Kristin and her daughter Ashford from Pot de Crème.

What an awesome mother-daughter duo and what fun we had visiting their whimsical studio in Minneapolis. It’s a true family business, as Kristin started mixing paint in her kitchen. “Paint runs through her veins!” how Ashford described her mom. Too cute and so true!

If you have plans to use your existing furniture, home accessory, door or window frame and want to give it new life, you will LOVE THIS! And even if you’re not planning on this, stop by and see incredible before and after projects. The texture is fabulous and the paint is so easy to use. You only need one coat—no sanding, no stripping, just ONE coat of this delicious paint. They also make their own all-natural wax that doubles as a skin moisturizer! Pretty cool!

Their enthusiasm made me want to try this at home too and I think you’ll feel the same. When you check out their demos at the show, every hour on the hour, tell them Alexis says, “Hey girl hey!”

You must check out Pot de Crème’s non-toxic, recycled paint!

My other favorite new thing in this year’s show is the Design Matchmakers!

I know my way around DIY accessory projects using yarn, beads and buttons, but when it comes to DIY home remodeling projects, I need help from professionals! In the same boat?

Sign up online and you will be paired with an expert IFDA (International Furnishings and Design Association) designer for a FREE design consultation and professional advice on any home project. IFDA members offer expertise in a variety of disciplines related to interior design and furnishings.

How cool is that? You get 30 minutes with a professional designer! Be sure to bring pictures, lots of pictures of your space and inspiration from magazines.

No matter where you are in the home remodeling process, take a couple hours or an entire day to wander through the Midwest Home Show. If you’re just getting started with a project or you plan to remodel in the next year or two, there is so much inspiration and help in one great location!

I’m ready to fall in love with my home again, are you?
