Inspirational Remodeling Updates: Charlie & Co. Design, Ltd.

Charlie and Co Design Kitchen Before

The before kitchen, located in one of St. Paul’s most storied homes, looked a little like a library, a little like a subway station, and a little like a pool hall. And while the room definitely had its issues, there was also a lot of potential under those green floor-to-ceiling tiles, green laminate countertops, and outdated appliances, mainly the high ceiling, large windows, and open, spacious layout.

The residential design studio of Charlie & Co. Design built on the strengths of the room to create a gorgeous kitchen. The details fit the 1920s era when the home was built, with cabinetry and millwork replicated from that timeframe, historically accurate hinges and pulls, and a refrigerator concealed behind a reproduction Federal Style armoire. Modern details include Carrera marble counters and backsplash, a stone hood above the six-burner stove, and a graceful arch over the main windows. Eye-catching lighting can make a big impact, and the pièce de résistance are the two dramatic chandeliers above the center island.

In the end, the kitchen received a stylish, modern makeover while retaining the historic authenticity of the home.
