In gearing up for the 2015 Midwest Home Luxury Home Tour—starting the first weekend in June—we’ll be talking to some of the builders on this year’s tour. This week, we’re featuring Stonewood LLC, home #5 on the tour.
Sometimes, knowing where to start can be the most challenging part in building a new home.
In part one of our four-part series, Stonewood LLC describes how they worked with the client, listening to their needs before jumping into the project.
The client wish list:
- English country cottage
- Old-world, authentic feel
- Mainly one-level living
- Elevator
- Golf simulator
- Four-season porch
Details:
Every element throughout this 5,600–square-foot home in Wayzata, from the handcrafted timber trusses in the great room to the Juliet balcony, showcases a keen eye for detail—a trademark of Sven Gustafson, owner of Stonewood LLC. In this home, it was important to convey a feeling of authenticity. This was achieved with finishes portraying an English country-cottage feel, complete with natural exterior stone detailing, cottage-style windows and doors, and picturesque rooflines pierced by prominent gables. This gorgeous home in Wayzata’s Locust Hills neighborhood looks like it could’ve been plucked right from the English countryside.
The majority of the homeowners’ time will be spent on the main level, where the kitchen, great room, master bedroom, sewing room, and laundry room are conveniently located. The spacious upper level houses a large office and dedicated music room, and the lower level is meant for entertaining with a family room, bar, and indoor golf simulator.
